Life in Norway is a rollercoaster

Hello there!

Time flies and it is already time to make a quick summary of my first month here. I have met so many people, colleagues but also the youths I have started working with. If at first some of them might have been a bit shy (the language barrier is a real thing), their curiosity grew more and more as I got to know them better. The youth houses are thriving and full of life with amazing young people becoming their future self. The French lessons are going great and I truly hope the students will get to learn a lot with me around.

I also discovered more about the Gubrandsdalen history and culture during two days in which I became a viking! We dressed up in (almost) accurate viking clothes and held activities for the 6th graders, making them dress up, cut wood, forge metal, discover traditional instruments, sing and dance. Despite the cold, those two days were fabulous and enchanting.

I got to explore the areas and further as I spent a weekend in Trondheim for the Kakkmaddafakka concert. The city streets were beautiful and the cultural activities were absolutely worth it. I quickly visited Lillehammer and its cool art museum that taught me about Norwegian paintings.

Finally, the last weekend of the month was spent in Oslo. On the Saturday, a Tusenfryd trip had been organized by Ung I Midtdalen. We stayed the whole day at the amusement park with about 50 youths going crazy on rollercoasters and haunted house. The park was all decorated in a Halloween theme and the pumpkins reflected the autumn we had entered in. I spent my Sunday in Oslo where I got to celebrate my birthday and visit the pop music museum!

This first month in Norway went off so quickly because of all the busy things I had to do but it was worth the rush.

See you next month!

Sarah
